BikeTexas is hosting it's annual membership meeting, followed by a party celebrating our 25th anniversary this Sunday, Sept. 25. Come celebrate with us, meet our board, past board, staff, past staff, members, and friends.
Michael, Of course you should! You were a bicycle advocate before advocacy was "cool"! You have always been a level head, and have had your finger on the pulse of cycling in ATX. Bonus-It's a party, at a cool venue, open to the public!
Help BikeTexas reach the "tipping point" this week, where Groupon will match funds to provide lights and helmets to kids who ride! http://www.groupon.com/deals/grs-biketexas?dl=d47388
A webmaster I am not! Wish I could help!
Great Michael. Thank you. And thanks for letting me know about the LOBV endorsement. Early voting ends Tuesday folks. Have a voice and Vote!
Randi did respond to the questionaire. Did it not get posted Michael? I have a copy if you need it!
I want to be perfectly clear that Bicycle Sport Shop does NOT endorse candidates. Hill Abell, and I usually agree but not always! The LOBV did endorse Randi, as she has been consistant and supportive on cycling issues. The LOBV is standing by that endorsement. Randi attended the event to thank the LOBV, who had a table at the event as did a large number of advocacy organizations and 4 bike shops. Chris Riley also attended.
I was very proud of the huge collaborative effort with all of the shops, bands, and organizations that donated their time and money to bring representatives from every subculture of the cycling community this citywide event. The positive energy was so contagious.
Thank you all who helped make the party a huge success.

Just heard from some UT law students that there is a woman that hangs around near the Capitol, approaching young people asking them if they want to buy a bike. If they show interest, they are led to the alley (I'm assuming by 9th street), and shown a bike for sale for $20.00. Have any of you heard of this? Clearly it's the area where most bikes are stolen. I'm trying to get more info.
I got word that there will be opponents lined up and they will be signing up to speak, and/or to support or not. Please check my blog regarding this www.bicyclesportshop.wordpress.com Yellow Bike has some info on their newsletter www.yellowbike.org
I'm pleased to announce that Police Chief Acevedo, Commander Mungia, and several other officers have joined the "Friends and Family" Challenge with the Austin Commuter Challenge League! If you haven't formed a team, set up your profile now. This Challenge runs May 11-17th. Last day to sign up is the 10th.
In addition, the Chief has informed me that they have installed bike racks in the police garage to accomodate commuters. Chief Acevedo joined a large number of cyclists in the Political Pedal last Friday. He's a nice guy, and is truly interested in our cycling community.
SWEET!

Last year Bicycle Sport Shop partnered with South by Southwest to provide free bicycle valet services for attendees of the SXSW concert series on Lady Bird Lake. "It was a huge success," says Chris Carter, Marketing Manager for Bicycle Sport Shop. "We parked more than 1200 bikes over 3 days and everyone seemed very appreciative of the service."
This year Bicycle Sport Shop hopes to see more people on bikes taking advantage of our free bicycle valet parking. "Riding bikes, whether for fun or transportation, is a great way for anyone in Austin to get around town, especially during the craziness of SXSW.. If more people committed to cycle more and drive cars less the positive impact on our community would be enormous."
The SXSW Auditorium Shores Free Concert Series will begin Thursday, March 19th at 5pm. For more information on SXSW you can visit sxsw.com. For more information regarding the SXSW Valet Parking please visit bicyclesportshop.com
This will be a casual ride at approx. 15-18mph range.
Sadly, another reason that fatalities are going down is that maybe fewer people are cycling. I hope that is not the case. Definitely too many confounding variables to come to any absolute conclusions.
Bicycle Parking will be provided by Bicycle Sport Shop so you'll have plenty of safe space for your bikes.
Join Bicycle Sport Shop for a 23 mile Tour of Austin with Gary Smith and Joe Ingram of Independent Fabrication. Rollout at Noon from Bicycle Sport Shop, 517 South Lamar.
Chris Riley is kicking his campaign off at Threadgills on Barton Springs. Chris is a longtime friend of cyclists, and definitely doesn't just talk....he "walks the walk".....not owning a car! Bicycle Sport Shop will provide complementary bike parking for all of you cyclists that would like to attend this event.
Bicycle Sport Shop rents bikes, from basic, to high end. We can set you up. In addition, we will be providing Valet Bike Parking at SXSW this year. Sign up for our newsletter for all of the updates at www.bicyclesportshop.com
If you register for the Enews at Bicyclesportshop.com you won't miss these events. All are posted on our website as well. It was VERY chilly, that night, but Mr. and Ms. Claus were present and jolly!
