Austin Bike Summit 2011, Saturday, April 16th

--- Austin Bike Summit 2011, April 16th -- Save the Date! ---

The summit date is set: Saturday, April 16th, 2011.  Workshops and presentations, including a break for lunch and a bike ride, will fill the day
from 8:30am to 6:00pm.  Immediately following that, we'll have purely social time among us bike geeks for the rest of the evening.

This year's summit will be at Pine Street Station, 1101 E. 5th St. at Waller St., just east of downtown Austin.

We are looking for new ideas for workshops, presentations, and exhibits.  For guidance, you can use the information below: a list of last year's workshops, a list of a few workshops likely for this year, and the summit mission statement.

Deadline for submissions is Wednesday, February 23rd.

Last year's summit workshops included:
* Bike Programs at Schools - A comprehensive look at bike programming at schools including after-school programs, Safe Routes trainings, and the Boltage Program (f.k.a. "Freiker").
* Promotional Campaigns and Resources: How do we make new cyclists? How do we support bicycle advertising?
* Advocacy Efforts in Austin – Overview
* Opportunities for Social Rides
* Adult Cycling Education - How do we bring the education to riders? How do we create education "products" that "sell"?
* Advocate Training – How to be effective
* Next steps: Help set the LOBV and bicycling agenda for the next two years
* Bicycle Facility Design in Austin
* Non-violence in road encounters

Likely new workshops at this year's summit:
* Successes in suburban neighborhood transportation cycling
* Reaching a broader audience for bicycling
* Near-Austin long trips; Working to develop a regional map and bike plan

Registration is free, but required for attendance at the summit. Register now to receive one of 150 $10 gift certificates to Whole Earth Provision Co. On-site registration is available, but there may be a 5-15 minute line, especially when you're most in a hurry.

The Austin Bike Summit provides a unique, once-a-year convergence. At no other time of the year is there an opportunity for all Austin bike advocates and staff to come together.
