fyi for those interested...
I'm hosting an event this Sunday from 11am-4pm for OpenStreetMap at Austin Java near Zilker Park. If you're unfamiliar, OpenStreetMap can be thought of as the 'Wikipedia of maps', free for anyone to use, edit and contribute to.
OpenStreetMap currently has over 90,000 registered users around the world, and we're looking to grow our community in the United States. The project, which allows anyone to create, edit and use maps, has been particularly popular with cyclists. With the ability to upload and view trails, bike lanes and paths, as well as cyclist friendly amenities (drinking fountains, restrooms, bike parking), it is truly a great resource for cyclists.
Our mapping events are a casual, fun and free way to learn about the OpenStreetMap project, and how cyclists can use and contribute towards it. Here's some information about our upcoming events. We'd be grateful if you could share it with your members, and anyone else you feel may be interested in this effort.
