East Austin to McKinney Falls State Park

I'm taking a trip to McKinney Falls State Park with one or more other people.  We're starting in East Austin (or maybe the UT area).

This is the route that I've been considering so far:
  1) Manor Rd.
  2) Chestnut Ave.
  3) Pleasant Valley Rd.
  4) Oltorf St.
  5) Montopolis Dr.
  6) Burleson Rd.
  7) McKinney Falls Pkwy.

I'd like to hear other suggestions.

We'll be making the trip to McKinney Falls during rush hour, between 4-6pm, so that'll add some unfortunate spice to the trip.

I ride that way pretty regularly and the route I prefer is almost the same.  The link below shows a few different turns to avoid busy intersections and the relatively steeper hill on Oltorf.  I haven't ridden Oltorf in a while, but I do remember one steep hill that would not be fun if hauling a bunch of camping gear.  Best of luck!

Don't know if this will hit you in time.

Pleasant Valley is, well, a valley and hits Oltorf at the bottom, so east or west on Oltorf is up hill a bit.  I think the Burleson crossing of 71 is better than Montopolis, but that may not be as easy to get to from pleasant valley (bigger hill west on oltorf).

If you're on mountain/hybrid bikes then S Pleasant Valley goes all the way through past Oltorf to Burleson.

We usually get over there via S. Congress to Live Oak to Oltorf to Burleson.

Regards,
Andy

Can anyone confirm that a trail connects the Pleasant Valley cul-de-sac through to Burleson Rd.?  Andy cannot confirm this and the satellite images via Google are inconclusive.

I've followed commuterman's route.  If you are on mtb or hybrid bikes, you can take a back path to avoid most of pleasant valley after the bridge and riverside.

Cool, thanks dhan for the back route.  I had wondered if that route was available yet.

I know that my bike will work, but I have to ask the other riders.

Commuterman's path is the exact same route I used to take to work when I was at AMD down off of Burleson and McKinney Falls. It's not too bad besides that short stretch on Riverside and the little climb on Montopolis.
