I was poking around the League of American Cyclist website www.bikeleague.org trying to find info on becoming an instructor. But I had NO luck: links to sign up for email lists are dead, I cannot find a single cycling class (now called Smart Cycling, apparently, though when I took it years ago it was Traffic Safety 101) even listed on the calendar, nor any seminars for training of trainers. Is some other organization handling cycling classes? The "Connect Locally" search does reveal all the instructors and organizations for the searched area (scroll down) but I don't want to bother someone if the info is available on the web.
Thanks,
Elizabeth Gray

You might see this link: http://www.bikeleague.org/content/seminar-schedule and this link: https://www.bikeleague.org/content/become-instructor
For similar, see: https://register.cyclingsavvy.org/findaclass
Also, this might help: https://bikeaustin.org/bike-education-request/

Thanks, you pointed me to a page on the LAB site I hadn't found through my own navigation. And now I'm aware of the Cycling Savvy and Center for Cycling Education class curricula. But the bottom line is, I see no basic classes from any provider currently scheduled in Austin. That's a change from years past when there seemed to be classes regularly scheduled several times a year. Maybe the volunteers are are tired out, or maybe there's no demand now for cycling classes, dunno. Anyway, I appreciate the pointers.

The request link at bike Austin may still help.

I have been talking to Katie Deolloz, the head of Bike Austin. They will be offering an LCI course soon, so keep an eye on Bike Austin. She says the first one will be for women. I wanted to join it and even offered to wear a dress and heals, but she said no and that another course would be offered soon after and to keep looking out for it on their website.

Thanks for posting this. I have been keeping an eye out for this too. To take the LCI course it looks like you have to take their Smart Cycling course first, but there doesn't seem to be any of those listed, although it looks like part of it may be online. I contacted Bike Austin, and was told to look on their site in a week or so for more info.

Bike Austin now has the links to the prerequisite TS101 online and on-bike courses. You have to go through their flakebook page to get to them: https://www.facebook.com/bikeaustin/
The online TS101 course is free and doesn't take too long. If you take it be aware that it is train wreck, from an assessment item point of view. You have to get at least 85% correct, but the chapter tests have less than 10 items, and some of them are not covered in the preceding section. The wording is tricky in a couple as well, so don't just blow through it even if you think you know it all.
The on-bike part is going to be on 10.6.18. Free, but you have to register for it.
The instructions for registering for the LCI course in November make it sound like you have to have completed both TS101 sections first, but I was told that you do not. There will be two LCI course, a woman only earlier in November and then one for anyone later in November.

The on-bike part of the TS101 course has now been pushed back a week to 10.13. Also, the two LCI courses to be held in November are in danger of not making it. All of this is due to low registration. And no wonder, Bike Austin doesn't even have these (their own events) listed on their own calendar on their own website.
Oh, apparently the woman-only LCI course has some scholarships available. Contact Bike Austin
