Drunk driving laws in Japan are STRICT!

(1) Drunk driving limit is a mere 0.03 BAC, though in practice the police can decide that you're drunk even if you're less than that.

(2) Fine on first offense is up to 5 years in prison and up to $10,000.

(3) Passengers will probably be penalized for letting the driver drive "drunk".

(4) The new, stiffer penalties are credited with reducing DWI collisions from 26,000 in 2000, to 6000 in 2009.
