10 y.o. boy crawls 1/4-mile home after being hit & run'd on sidewalk

"A 10-year-old boy had to crawl a quarter of a mile home after getting struck by a hit-and-run driver in northwest Austin Friday afternoon. [2/9/18] ... Walsh says he was walking home from Forest North Elementary School on Hyemeadow Drive — near Lake Creek Parkway — around 3:30 p.m. when the driver went onto the sidewalk and struck him."

“'He could have been dead on the side of the road because somebody just took off, because they didn’t care enough to even go check on him, they just took off, what kind of person does that?' wondered Walsh’s mother..."

"...The department has seen 49 reports of failure to stop and render aid since the beginning of the year, as well as 1,025 reports of leaving the scene of a crash...."

Welcome to Austin !

And, I cannot believe the callousness and carelessness of drivers, around my own children, in our neighborhood. Problem is, I see it far too often, with too much at stake, not to...

Glad to read that Caden is more or less ok.

Yeah, something like 50% of serious car-bike or car-pedestrian collisions in Austin are hit & runs.  That means half the drivers out there, if they hit me, are quite willing to leave me for dead.  Fifty percent.  How does one avoid becoming a pessimist when faced with that reality?

And of course, in spite of all this flippant carnage, drivers want to harp on how bad scofflaw bicyclists supposedly are.  Sheesh.
