Austin police have accused a man of pumping a shotgun blast into a random cyclist to “blow off steam” on June 7. Merrick David Isaacks, 19, is being held at the Travis County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records. An arrest affidavit filed on Wednesday said the shooting happened around 11:52 p.m. in the 6300 block of East Riverside Drive.
Officers were called out to the area after receiving calls for a man bleeding from a possible gunshot wound. The affidavit said he was unresponsive at the scene, and a passing citizen had stopped to begin performing CPR. The victim was taken to an area hospital for an injury to his back, shoulder and head from what appeared to be a shotgun blast, according to the affidavit. “Nurses on duty advised that (the victim) was not responsive and may not survive due to his injuries,” the responding officer wrote in the document. “I was informed that (the victim) had pellets from the shotgun blast that entered his brain stem, which was of concern to hospital staff.”

And I'll bet the comment section will have some nice anti-cycling rants even though this has nothing whatsoever to do with cycling. I'd look, but I don't have the stomach for it.

I was thinking the same thing.
Austin can't legitimately be called a "Bike-Friendly City" when the comments section of articles about cyclists getting maimed & killed is filled with anti-cycling vitriol.
