University Cyclerly (formerly University Schwinn), R.I.P. Feb 28, 2017

Three years ago, beloved, long-term bike shop Freewheeling Bicycles, leaving University Cyclery (formerly University Schwinn) as the oldest bike shop in Austin.

Well, now University Cyclery is closed.  From their website:

After 39 years of serving Austin, University Cyclery closed its doors on February 28th, 2017.

Our building was sold and we have decided to move on. We’re sad but excited about the next chapter of our lives.

The Fox family purchased University Schwinn Cyclery in 1977 with locations at 29th & Lamar and Anderson Lane, with three other locations being opened and eventually closed in various parts of town over the years. When the Schwinn Bicycle Company was sold in 2001, the store’s name was changed to University Cyclery and began selling Giant, Yeti, Jamis and other bicycle brands. In 2004 the original owners retired and Jim Fox took over the business after working as the store's manager for many years.

Thank you Austin for your many years of support!! We've had a wonderful ride.

This follows Ozone Bicycles which closed last year.  Dude.
