In the last two weeks four people have been killed trying to cross I-35, and a fifth pedestrian was killed near Mueller, less than a mile from my home.

According to police the man was walking in the crosswalk around 5:57 p.m. near South Congress and Sheraton Avenue when he was hit.
He was taken to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene. No charges are expected to be filed but the investigation is ongoing.

ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — The Round Rock Police Department says a father and his daughter were killed when a driver that was street racing struck them after a collision. Police say the crash happened at around 3 p.m. Saturday at A.W. Grimes at Gattis School Road.
Initial information indicates two drivers in Ford Mustang vehicles, one blue and one red, were racing when the red Mustang clipped a silver mini-van. The collision pushed the minivan onto the sidewalk where it struck a man and his 12-year-old daughter, killing them.

Two injured as car crashes through farmers market in WimberleyAUSTIN (KXAN) — The loved ones of local singer-songwriter, Savannah Welch, say the injuries she sustained in last week’s crash at the Wimberley Farmers Market have forced doctors to amputate her right leg. Welch is a member of the folk music group, The Trishas.
“Savannah is recovering remarkably quickly and her spirits are great,” her father, Kevin Welch, said. “It could have easily gone a lot of other ways, a lot of worse ways.”
Welch says he and his 4-year-old grandson, Charlie Burns, were standing on either side of Savannah when she was struck by a vehicle. “[Her son] was maybe, I don’t know, maybe six feet away from her when the car hit her. So, that’s what we’re concentrating on is, you know, being grateful.”....
