MetroRail ridership figures

The Community Impact newspaper has a nice chart showing peak-time a.m. ridership over time for MetroRail.  The takeaway:

* About 450 people per day get off downtown

* That level hasn't increased for about a year.  (Not surprising, the trains are pretty much at capacity during peak times.)

* The 2nd-most popular destination is the MLK station, which is a distant second, with far less than half the alightings of the downtown station.

* Most riders board at one of the first stations in the line (Leander, Lakeline, or Howard).  Far, far fewer board anywhere else.

CapMetro is planning on some improvements to increase capacity, including double-tracking, which will allow trains to run more frequently.

The chart is available in this PDF, on p. 15.
