A Houston man is charged with failure to stop and render aid after police said he struck three pedestrians in downtown Austin Saturday night.
Dennis Ray Clay, 53, faces three counts of the third-degree felony following the incident near Cesar Chavez St. and San Jacinto Blvd. about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses told investigators they saw an F-250 pickup “swing wide” and strike three pedestrians standing on the sidewalk, according to an arrest affidavit. One of the pedestrians was dragged for several yards under the pickup, which did not stop until it reached the 600 block of Chavez. One of the pedestrians was semi-conscious and unable to give his account of what happened, according to the affidavit.
All three pedestrians were transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.
Bond was set at $5,000.

$5000 bond? It's almost as if they *don't* want him to come back for his trial!

Yeah, that rubbed me the wrong way too.
If he does bail (I mean, skip town), I wonder if there will be any scrutiny of the judge's decision to set bond so low?
He's charged with four counts, scheduled for court on 5/20/14 and 5/27/14 3/4/15. His attorney is Anthony Novert Morales.
