Teen drunk driver kills 4, gets probation only (no jail)

http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/11/us/texas-teen-dwi-wreck//

No word on whether his license was suspended, much less revoked.

We continue to send the message that people don't have to be responsible for their actions -- at least when they're driving.  Is it any wonder the roads are so dangerous?

Another travesty. The kid even admitted being drunk and had priors.

The "affluenza" defense was an interesting plot twist.

How is this real? What a joke this judge is, and the system that allows it.

Look at our DA and assistant DA, currently.
The system that allows it is called APD and our bar/car culture in austin at large.
APD and our current city council also just closed our trail system at night.
Kind of legally forces us to share the roads with our DWI culture.
Nice.
At least we have a Vulnerable Road User Crackdown.
Hope they really show those scofflaw cyclists and scofflaw walkers what they deserve for daring to use our city streets.
Go APD and our city management team featuring Marc Ott.
Way to go, folks.

The system that allows it is called APD...

That's not it.  First of all, this case wasn't even in Austin.  Second, it's not that police are creating the bias in people, it's that the *culture* is already biased and the police are drawn from that culture.  Third, the police did properly arrest the driver in this case, it was the judge who failed to sentence him properly.  Fourth, the bias exists at every level, and the lack of justice exists at every level, not just with the police, and as I say in my article on the subject, laying the blame at the feet of only the police is a gross oversimplification.

All good points.  Avecedo is behind blood draws to make it harder for sleaze bag lawyers to plant doubt and get drunk drivers acquitted.
