We have 105 bikes to build in order to get ready for our launch. Even if you are not mechanically inclined, you can help by being a B-stager - no experience needed. We need help pulling bikes out of boxes and prepping them for mechanics to finish building up the bikes to be ready for our December 21 launch. More on Austin B-cycle at http://Austin.Bcycle.com

Bike share officials and supporters gathered Wednesday night at GSD&M's Sixth Street offices to celebrate the impending Dec. 21 launch of Austin's newest two-wheeled transit system.
Recently, the Bike Share of Austin LLC, which goes by the name B-Cycle Austin, has stepped up a push to reach businesses and residents in the urban core area. The launch party brought together employees and officials from many of the companies who offered $50,000 in initial support such as SXSW Inc. and Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS).
Also involved were public officials such as Austin's Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole and City Councilman Mike Martinez. The Bikes Belong Foundation, which recently rebranded as People for Bikes, provided a grant that made the launch party possible.
The guest list at the party indicated that several of Austins' most visible businesses are taking part in bike share and that the nonprofit's decision makers are very optimistic about program's outlook.
"We're focused on the stakeholders in the area where bike share is going to have the most impact," said Craig Staley, owner of Royal Blue Grocery and board chair of Bike Share of Austin LLC. "Whether it's retail, or offices, we're looking to where there is a change to improve mobility."
Previously, bike share and the city of Austin had said the location of 11 stations that will form the backbone of the December launch. More stations will be added in March of next year.
As more stations are added and the ridership grows, Staley said, the system will come closer to sustaining itself financially. While it's hard to estimate how long that will take from city to city, he added, he expects it could happen within five years of the program's launch.
"I would like to see 1,000 bikes in Austin," Staley said. "That's a long rang goal, maybe a five-year goal. In three to five years we can be approaching sustainability."

Re: Sign Up To Help Build B-Cycle Bike Share Bikes !!!

Built a few B-Cycle bikes yesterday.
Very nice, great quality, bit heavy, stable, useful short trip bikes.
Looking forward to having a large local fleet and interconnected network w/ satellite stations out away from downtown, someday…
Also, stations in parks along MUP's, affordable housing complexes, and senior citizen activity zones would be nice goals for our system, similar to San Antonio.

Sign up to assemble today !
Build going on until this Sat, I believe.
Extended as/if needed.
