Austin trails once again closed to cyclists overnight

Austin trails once again closed to cyclists overnight

http://shar.es/IgL8V

Three Austin trails, starting in about 10 days, once again will be off limits overnight, the Austin City Council decided Thursday.

To Mayor Leffingwell, Mayor Sheryl Cole, Kathie Tovo Laura Morrison Mike Martinez, William Spelman, City Council at large,

I find your votes on the trail issue disgusting.
At least it made the Statesman...hopefully the Chronicle will detail your choices even more clearly for the public.
I wonder what Richard Whitaker is thinking on this. Chronicle article worthy ?
Our local  government controlling our city's transportation policies must change.
We will continue the pressure and the PR.
Thank you very much for your sensible support, Chris Riley !!!

The good news:
There are clearly no funds available for APD to patrol and/or enforce this ordinance.
Nice conundrum.
I will continue using the trail system in the same manner and times that I am accustomed.
For the past 10 years, to regularly commute for work, after hours. Not every time, but often.
The past 20 years, occasional recreational use.

Also,

What about all the early morning runners, training in the dark, before work ?

They weren't permitted during the pilot program either -- only cyclists.  (And yes, I think that was nuts.)

So nothing changes for them, except that I guess the odds of them actually getting caught go down without having anybody patrolling any more.
