We hope that you will join us next Saturday, Feb. 9 for an hour-long City Cycling class taught by League of American Bicyclists instructors from the Austin Cycling Association, followed by a family-friendly bike ride through the neighborhood. We will meet at Bikealot (4418 Pack Saddle Pass, www.bikealotaustin.com) at 9 a.m. for the class, then ride for around an hour. Bring water and a camera.

Re: Southwood Neighborhood Ride Feb 9, 2013 @ 9:00am

Greetings South Austin Combined stakeholders:

The next neighborhood planning workshop is just two weekends away on Feb. 16, but in the meantime, just a reminder that the neighborhood bike ride is tomorrow at 9! Bring water and a camera and meet at Bikealot (4418 Pack Saddle Pass) for a bicycling education and skills presentation. Bicycle instructors from the Austin Cycling Association will then lead a family friendly ride through the neighborhood. If there's interest, we might go to the farmer's market at Burger afterwards.

Thanks and hope to you see ya'll tomorrow!

Best,

Francis

Cool!  Did y'all come up with any key findings or wishlists for bicycle infrastructure in the area, based off of observations from the ride or input from residents? (i.e. any ideas different from COA's existing bicycle master plan that residents can push for?)

Re: Southwood Neighborhood Ride Feb 9, 2013 @ 9:00am

Yes. That was one of the main points of the ride. We are participating with the city in the Southwood Neighborhood Plan to help plan the future and connectivity of our zone in the city.
Folks from COA bicycle program, planning, public works were all present, I believe, on the ride and many other depts including parks and rec are participating in the year long planning session. ACA education and ride representatives and our LBS owner, Brad, will continue to be part of the process.
We also submitted a Photo Safari wish list generated on bike.
I am hopeful that this process will result in a safer and greater connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists in our zone and to other zones in Austin.
I am looking forward to the next meeting this Saturday at Crocket HS.
