U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood set to resign

In his first term, Obama appointed Republican Ray LaHood as Transportation Secretary.  (And he wasn't the only Republican appointed by Obama, which reminds me:  Exactly how many Republicans does Obama have to appoint before people realize he's not a socialist?  But I digress.)

The rumored replacement would be much friendlier on transit issues.  We'll see.

Easy -- all of them.   Though that probably still wouldn't be enough.  (Facts just aren't going to get in the way of labels ...)

That said, LaHood seemed to do a pretty decent job where bikes were concerned.  Or am I just setting the bar too low?

Okay, on closer inspection, he seems to have had a good record as transpo secretary, including being a big supporter of high speed rail:

I'd remembered hearing disappointing things during his tenure, but I guess I wasn't paying attention closely.
