The Austin cycling community is shocked and saddened by the recent death of Cody Johnson on Saturday, November 3rd, the serious injuries of Brian Lindquist on Friday, October 12th, and the death of Robert "Chops" Ramirez on Sunday, September 23rd.
These people were struck from behind by drunk drivers while safely and legally using their bicycle as transportation.
We as a community will come together on Thursday, November 29th, 2012, at 6 pm at City Hall. Then we will ride our bikes slowly to the Capitol building down Congress Avenue.
Thursday’s gathering will be a chance to send a message to lawmakers and city officials to create better infrastructure for cyclists, to implement comprehensive safety awareness and education among drivers and cyclists, and to create and enforce laws specifically protecting cyclists.
We hope that this gathering can be a catalyst for change to bring about awareness and educate everyone who uses our roads while protecting people on bicycles, our most vulnerable road users.
Please join us to spread this very important message.
Facebook settings won't allow an organization's page to send out invitations, so please invite your friends in the upper right hand corner of this event page.
Also, we will have 600 FREE front and rear bike lights to hand out to those who do not have lights. We want everyone to be safe during and after the ride!
NOTE: People who would like to attend this event but can not ride with us from City Hall to the Capitol, please meet us at the Capitol at 7 PM.
