Hello,
My first post. I am being offered a job in Tarrytown which is a half-hour bike ride from home _PERFECT!_
My employer is concerned about riding to work on hot or rainy days as there is no shower facility on site.
Can anyone recommend a place nearby that has showers?
thanks,
kesten

Keep changes of clothes stashed at work and if you can't find a shower keep a butt-load of baby wipes from Costco at work.

I don't know of a place, but there are alternatives to having a shower available. I've commuted daily ten miles each way in Austin for the past four years, and didn't have a shower available most of that time. What I did was shower before I left, then use a sink and washcloth in the bathroom to clean off sweat from the ride in. Other people might have other suggestions, but a shower isn't a necessity (though it is nice to have).

thanks. My employer was specifically concerned about the fresh and clean look since I work as a team meeting leader. Plus I'd just love to have a cool shower on a smokin hot august day after a ride across town, or a hot shower when it rains. Wish there were a warmshowers.org for the daily commuter or a directory of buildings that could offer it!

I know some long distance commuters who join a nearby gym, but in Tarrytown you may have better luck finding a Yoga club or similar. Also, I've heard Camp Mabry allows anyone to use their running track, perhaps you can see what else they have to offer.

Kesten,
This is a long shot, but worth a try: check with the Pilates and yoga/fitness studio in the shopping center at Windsor and 24th. Assuming they don't have a shower you can use, then contact the property management company: the woman who owns this property is famously a vegetarian who lives by her principals, i.e. not allowing any retails renters to sell meat products (or use pesticides, or do anything harmful to animals). maybe, just maybe, her sentiments include general overall sustainability and better off-ness of the world. So maybe she has a janitorial closet you can use (the gas station might have one, too!), and/or she can prevail on one of the tenants to allow this. Or even provide one, if one doesn't exist.
Howson Library has public bathroom, but opens at 1000 hrs and closed on Thursdays.
Elizabeth, who lives in that area.

wow, thanks! I'll follow up on this.
