Southern Walnut Creek Trail

The Southern Walnut Creek Trail is a 7.3 mile trail that connects Govalle Park to the Urban Roots Farm and the Driveway at Delwau Lane, the YMCA near MLK and US 183 and to Austin Tennis Center, Northeast Park, and Walnut Creek Preserve located near Loyola Lane and Johnny Morris Road and adjacent communities. 

Although the trail will be designed to intersect with some roadways along the route, the majority of the 10' wide concrete path will be completely separated from motor vehicle traffic.  This trail will facilitate opportunities for transportation, outdoor exercise, service projects, recreation, as well as nature studies and observations.  Letters of support or opposition can be sent to Stephen Rye by November 8th at stephen.rye \at\ austintexas.gov. Please feel free to share this information with any stakeholder or other interested party.

Below is a schedule of events:

·         Tuesday, November 8th at 6PM in the main chambers of City Hall (301 W. 2nd Street) the Planning Commission will hear case number C14-2011-0082, C14-201-0083 and C14-2011-0086 (please see attached map) to change the zoning from Single Family to Public. 

·         Thursday, December 8th - case number C14-2011-0082 is planned to be heard at City Council

·         Spring, 2012 – Construction Begins

·         Winter, 2013 – Construction Completed (approximate)

·         Spring, 2013 – Celebratory Walk/Roll Event and Ribbon Cutting
