Hello all ... Prop. 1 is not perfect, but it's got our biggest chunk of bike/ped projects ever. And that concentration is fueling opposition from the road warriors and critical stories in the media. These are the same people that opposed the downtown bike boulevard and other bicycle-related projects. So please support Prop. 1 and tell your friends to do the same.

Ride to Rally the Vote FOR Proposition 1
Show your support for Proposition 1 by joining the League of Bicycling Voters and Austin Flyers Women's Cycling on October 28th, for the Ride to Rally the Vote FOR Proposition 1.
Proposition 1, the City of Austin Mobility Bond Election, would provide $44 million for bicycle and pedestrian projects, including funding for significant components of the 2009 Austin Bike Plan. Prop. 1 has been endorsed by local bicycling organizations — LOBV, Austin Bicycle Advisory Council, Austin Cycling Association, and BikeTexas — as well as a variety of other organizations, such as Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, Sierra Club, Downtown Austin Alliance, Austin Chronicle, and Austin American-Statesman. You can read more about Prop. 1 at GetAustinMoving.com and the City of Austin website. Early voting for the Nov. 2nd election is NOW through Oct. 29th.

* Ride to Rally: From Austin City Hall Plaza, on Cesar Chavez St. between Guadalupe & Lavaca, rides will depart every half-hour (5:00, 5:30, 6:00, and 6:30pm) to the early voting site at HEB at South Congress & Oltorf.
Be sure to bring an ID with you (e.g. driver's license, passport) or your voter card so that you can vote. Also make sure your bike has lights — it gets dark earlier.

If you receive the Community Impact paper in the mail you may have noticed that the recent issue included a full page anti- Prop One ad on the inside cover. I wrote to the paper to complain pointing out that this gave the distinct impression of an endorsement.
Within a couple of hours one of their people wrote back saying: "You are not the first who brought this to our attention, so please know we are working on this to ensure it is very clear in the future."
It seems that the anti bike people seem to have more money than the pro bike side. Please consider writing to the nice people at Community Impact like I did. They seem to be responsive, and if we can keep at least one source of info unbiased it would be a good thing. The guy I wrote to is: Travis Baker [email address deleted]
