Is tipping one's mechanic socially acceptable in Austin?

Howdy!

I've had a run of above-and-beyond service from my bike shop of choice. Where my mother lives, up in Washington, I understand that it's reasonable to tip one's mechanic, but I've never seen that done here in Austin, and don't know how it would be taken.

What's a reasonable course of action by which I can say "thanks!"? Drop off a case of beer?

I tip mine on occasion, but mine doesn't work at a bike shop.  It's his own business run out of his garage.  For a bike shop, you may want to check with the manager to see if there's any policy about tipping.

YES. i would say that a case of beer is a reasonable course of action for this service. i also tip mine. my thought is they are part of the long line of bike heroes - and its kind to let them know they are appreciated, if you are able.
