AUSTIN (KXAN) - A Downtown Austin Police Department Bike Officer was hit by a car while in pursuit of a hit and run vehicle at Congress and 2nd street.
The officer was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with minor injuries. He has been treated and released.
The officer on bicycle spotted the vehicle suspected in the pedestrian involved hit and run at West 5th and West Lynn Drive on Congress Ave.
The officer followed the vehicle on Congress Ave, trying to get the vehicle to pull over.
While crossing Congress Ave at 2nd street, a car pulled out crossing Congress at a green light, hitting the officer.
The car had the right of way, no charges have been filed against the driver of the car that hit the officer.
The pedestrian involved in the initial hit and run refused medical treatment at the scene.
Austin Police are still looking for the driver of the vehicle involved in the initial hit and run. The vehicle was described as a maroon Mercury.
