Eastbound 2222 Construction at 360

Copied and pasted from an email I got this morning:

"A construction project to replace the RM 2222 culvert at Bull Creek is underway.  Due to right of way limitations, eastbound RM 2222 has been reduced to a single through-lane from west of Loop 360 to the County Line Restaurant.  Due to spatial constraints and construction activities, TxDOT is encouraging bicyclists to select alternative routes until the bridge can be completed.

The construction is expected to continue for approximately 19 months into late 2011.
Upon completion, RM 2222 will be expanded to 5 lanes with shoulders and sidewalks at this location.
TxDOT regrets the inconveniences and appreciates your patience and cooperation."

I wonder what that 'alternate route' may be..... I feel for any cyclists who have to ride in this area to begin with. 2222 is pretty much a death trap the entire way. Luckily I don't need to commute around there, so I avoid it. A few months ago I did ride that section where they coned off the road to one lane going east. I was going 30mph and getting cut off by cars heading to 360 south. Yay TX.

Re: Eastbound 2222 Construction at 360

Well, I rode a short part of that stretch of FM2222 probably a hundred times on a commute to an office at the bottom of Tumbleweed Hill about five years ago - in my case I was coming down Far West and out on Lakewood to 2222; I guess I could have gone out the other way on Lakewood and then back south on 360 to get to the other side of the 2222 intersection. Since cars were usually stopped at the light from the northbound frontage road when I got in the right lane of 2222, it wasn't bad; was much worth avoiding the extra work on Lakewood and 360; but I could have made do.

Those riding down or uphill further upstream from Lakewood are, in my opinion, in possession of a death wish (as are those riding down Tumbleweed Hill).
