Roll Beyond Coal - Austin Bike Ride & Rally

Austin, TXOn October 31, 2009, the Roll Beyond Coal Coalition will be hosting Roll Beyond Coal Bike Rallies Across Texas.
These statewide events are being organized by: National Sierra Club Beyond Coal campaign, Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club, Austin Sierra Club, Austin EcoNetwork, PowerSmack, Environment Texas, Bicylcle Sports Shop, Public Citizen-- Texas Coal Block, and Re-Energize Texas.

By stopping new coal plants and phasing out old dirty coal plants we are rebuilding our economy and energy infrastructure, creating clean power and green jobs, saving our natural resources, and protecting the health and viability of Texas communities. We can only do this by working with you-- volunteers and friends.
Texas has more proposed coal fired power plants and the most carbon dioxide and mercury from existing coal plants in the nation. But, Texas is the leader in renewable energy production from wind and we can do the same with solar!

AUSTIN RALLY:
1pm: Gather & Register at City Hall
1:30pm: Rally at City Hall, hear from City Councilman Chris Riley and other community leaders
2-3pm: Hop on your bike (or take the pedestrian route) for the self-guided clean energy tour around Austin!
3-5pm: Social Gathering organized by Transmission Entertainment at the Ghost Room, downtown AustinThe Austin Bike Rally will begin with a rally on the steps of a City Hall, consist of a 5-10 mile bike tour of clean energy across our city, and culminate in a social gathering at the end. At the end of the clean energy bike tour, Transmission entertainment is organizing a social with the oopportunity to TAKE ACTION! There will be live music and an opportunity to mix and mingle with researchers, scientists, policy experts, and community members to discuss how we can take action to phase out Texas' existing coal plants and prevent new ones from popping up.
