One killed, one critically injured by red-light-running driver

A man was killed Saturday morning after police say his scooter was hit by a driver running a red light in Downtown Austin.

The Austin Police Department said that Charles Willis, 57, when he was hit by a Geo Tracker. The driver, Omar Dominguez-Navarette, got out of the car and ran, but was chased by witnesses, then was arrested by police.

Willis was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge, where he was pronounced dead. He had a female passenger, who suffered serious injuries in the crash.

This is the 56th traffic fatality of the year.
