Shoal Creek Trail gap between 5th & West finally fixed after 37 years

On Tuesday, the Public Works Department lifted the barricades on the short section of the trail that traces the creek on its bend from West Fifth Street to West Avenue.

It allows hikers and bikers to easily traverse the section for the first time since a deadly flood washed it out on Memorial Day in 1981.

...

The city will hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Shoal Creek Gap Project at 300 West Ave. at 10 a.m. on May 16.

Better late than never?  Still, 37 years...wow.

The Amtrak train route between New Orleans, LA and Florida still hasn't been restored since it was knocked out by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  After Trump's further cuts to transportation, we're moving farther away from restoration rather than further.

And the trail is out again in a different spot:

Of course the article doesn't include a map, but this is at about 24th street.

This is a shame, because the shoal creek trail could be a great way to get all the way from the river to 38th street without having to deal with cars hardly at all.

Well, that finally-complete trail didn't last long.

Hope it won't be another 37 years until this part is fixed.  The article says "months".
