MoPac Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge Project Update

Much needed alternative transportation infrastructure scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.  Kudos to KEYE to pointing out auto traffic will benefit from the extra lane as part of this project.

I have to wonder if this will connect up with Violet Crown trail project.  Currently the two do not seem related:

Great question.  The Hill Country Conservancy is working on creating a connection from the Mopac Bicycle Bridge Project to Brodie Lane.

The City of Austin just sent out an email giving the status of the Mopac Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge over the greenbelt.

Here's the newsletter they gave with the details.

If they stay on schedule, they should be done by December!

Compared to the Winter newsletter, it looks like schedules pushed out about 3 months. Also it's now called the MoPac Mobility Bridge rather than the MoPac Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge.

Beams were supposed to go up on the Mopac bridge at the beginning of December but work was delayed due to a filing error.

There's a new sign up indicating nightly northbound lane closures later this month, so maybe they're ready to lift the beams again.

Does anyone know what improvements are planned or happening to access this bridge from the south end?

If you want to go west or southwest from the bridge it seems like you're stuck with Southwest Parkway, 290 frontage or Mopac frontage, all of which are 50+mph no shoulders/no sidewalks in that area.  I suppose snaking through parking lots to get to Brodie is the safest route at the moment.
