By: News 8 Austin StaffA bicyclist died Sunday morning after a wreck in East Austin.
A 50-year-old man was riding his bicycle north on Craigwood Drive around 5:20 a.m. Sunday, when he was hit at an intersection by a car going west on FM 969.
Officers at the scene said they think the bicyclist may have run a red light, but they know for sure the man was not wearing a helmet and had no lights on his bike.
"At this time there's nothing to indicate that the driver of the Acura was doing anything wrong, on his way to work," Sgt. Richard Stresing said. "We don't believe there's any—there's no signs of intoxication. At this time there's no sign to indicate speeding or anything else. We just think it's an unfortunate accident involving a bicycle."
The driver of the car stopped and called 911, but the bicyclist was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.
The wreck is still under investigation. It marks the [43rd] traffic fatality in Austin this year.
