The city of Austin, looking to create a seamless network of protected bikeways throughout Austin, Tuesday evening will hold the first of three informational meetings this week as it works toward a master plan for such a system.
The city’s Public Works Department hopes to complete its urban trails master plan by this spring, along with an update of its 2009 bicycle plan.
“Imagine a system of connected trails and on-street bikeways that could get you from north to south, east to west and everywhere in between,” the city’s website says on a page headlined “Your path to Austin.”
“Now imagine these paths as protected areas away from cars — increasing safety so you can get there by bike, or on foot — regardless of your age or ability.”....
