One reason why kids don't bike to school

My kids have always walked or biked to school.  Recently, one of my son's friends started joining him in the bike ride to school.  But people were always messing with the friend's bike at the bike rack, and recently someone stole his pegs.  So he decided to not ride to school any more.

When I biked to middle school in 8th grade, I always locked my bike up at the edge of the parking lot away from the building on a lamp post. Surely kids would have messed with it had it been near the building.

It shouldn't be like that. Schools should address that issue.

Not good.
Rats.
On the other hand, my third/fourth grader has had a very nice experience commuting to Zilker Elementary. Bike racks everywhere, and used by many. New racks were installed, along w/ rainwater collection, for his 3rd grade portables, a couple of years ago.
Bike and accessories never messed with, including lights, water bottle, pannier, bell, skull blinkies, etc. So far, so good.
Sorry to hear about the thievery.
