Traffic citations down 50%, even as fatalities pile up

"The number of traffic tickets issued by Austin police has been plummeting — from 264,428 in 2009 to 133,852 in the 2012 fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30. That works out to 358 fewer tickets per day — or 15 per hour."

Interesting that they said the loss of the $850k federal grant for overtime pay was a factor, but the revenue for the city dropped $2M.  Maybe the city should fund a grant like that for APD.  Seems win/win... more overtime for cops that want it, and more money for city coffers.
