The new lane on Bluebonnet is apparently finished. I took it last night going south and this morning going north. It's pretty epic. Here's a photo that I took from my bike:

Those bollards, though totally flexible and drive-overable, make all the psychological difference in the world. I actually feel safe there in a way I never feel safe in a normal bike lane!

You feel safer because you ARE safer. The smallest, least physical barrier (including, incredibly, red plastic beer cups stuck to the road with duct tape) apparently change driver behavior, and they stay OUT of the bike lane.
