Bike Austin's board voted on 9/8/2021 to oppose Proposition A. There was no opposition to this position, so I can't say we had a very vigorous discussion about it. Bike-wise, I think systematically starving the City's general fund would be a big mistake -- one that would manifest in a lot of small ways, like worse maintenance of parks, shorter hours for parks & libraries, and reduced staffing for planning. I generally agree with the points made by the organized opposition (see https://nowaypropa.com/), which seems to be doing a lot of work on organizing & outreach.

The only paid staffperson Bike Austin has had in the past couple years is Alex Ecenia, alex /at/ bikeaustin.org, who's been helping on a contract basis for a few hours a week since early 2020, focusing mainly on social media.

I agree that it'd be helpful to have a more robust website with info about all this and other things too, and I'm hoping we'll make good progress on that in the next few months. I think it's fair to say we've had some bandwidth issues; there's a lot going on these days. If anyone would like to get involved, let me know.

Wow, great list!  Gotta add one more -- from Anne Frank, writing in her diary, December 24, 1943:

"I long to ride a bike, dance, whistle, look at the world, feel young and know that I'm free."

Update:  We're leaving from City Hall -- not One Texas Center -- at 8:30am Friday (tomorrow).  The rides on Saturday & Sunday (8:30 & 10:30am) will also be leaving from City Hall.

I wish there were a good route all the way to the track -- but right after Richard Moya Park you hit FM 973, a highway-speed road with one lane each direction, a double-yellow line in the middle, and no shoulders.  The route up to that point is family-friendly, but FM 973 is definitely not.  It's supposed to be redone in the next year or two, but for this year we decided the best option would be to make use of Richard Moya Park, a nice spot to hang out in.  The shuttle route from there to the site is on transit-only lanes, so it should be an easy connection.

Looking forward to the ride!  Come on out!

How about leaving at 8:30am Friday (11/16) from One Texas Center, SE corner of Barton Springs & S.1st?

Bike Austin is organizing rides from One Texas Center at 8:30 & 10:30am Saturday & Sunday (11/17-18), and we've been talking about doing the same route Friday morning.  Anyone in?
