so I wonder if the GOP attacks on women's healthcare issues is tied in with their attacks on Bike/Ped funding

#3 Re: Rides and Events » Where's the list of the Social Rides? » 2011-10-30 18:50:44

Michael- could you just post a listing of regular(Tuesday Night Yoga, Humpday Nooner, Thursday Night Social etc)and fairly regular (Heavy Breather, Sunday Dude Looks Like a Lady etc)  rides and a link to the Social Cycling FB page? that way folks who are on FB could easily sign up if interested and get the details

#4 Re: Justice Issues / Collisions » Be aware of Sysco truck » 2011-09-09 10:20:20

have you called Sysco and reported them to a supervisor? I'm sure they'd rather discipline/fire a bad driver than deal with the fallout from an accident

#5 Re: Other » Lost: Radbot 1000 tail light @ Crestview Station » 2011-08-07 12:41:36

have you checked with the Black Star Co-op folks to see if maybe someone turned it in there? also CapMetro lost and found might be worth a call/visit

#8 Re: Traffic Laws » Printing "Bicyclists' Rights" handout » 2011-01-13 16:55:01

I'd say a TX version, with a separate Austin insert. makes it easier for other cities to emulate as well as freeing up space
also, I say include the required equipment, there have been a few  times when I've been out riding at night and seen folks without lights and said "hey, did you know it's about $150 fine for riding without lights etc" and have them argue with me about the very existence of the law. be nice to be able to hand them something in writing

#9 Re: Bike Lanes / Facilities » BOYCOTT Thurs. 6/24 Downtown Bicycle Blvd Meeting » 2010-06-25 10:27:28

a more useful tactic would have been to show up with a TBC bicycle pin on and sit in the front row (or as close as possible.)

#10 Re: Other » Where can I lock my bike? » 2010-02-17 14:58:02

might be worth taking a picture or two when the rack is full and asking the building management about getting additional parking racks

such as Guadalupe or Lavaca?

> My company, as many others established on Nueces, rely on this exposure.  My client based has grown since our move and it can be often directly traced back to this exposure.  I have also hired two new employees since this summer.  My area is also zoned by the city to continue to grow with development once the economy turns around.  Additional growth will lead to more traffic and more exposure.

so your business has  increased from moving to Nueces from your previous location on Guadalupe? since there's a traffic light at 41st there would be plenty of eyeballs stopped and able to see the sign for your shop, so you can't complain about a lack of visibility. something tells me that the slower traffic on Nueces has already increased your business, despite the significantly lowered traffic volume.
I would imagine that many of your customers call to get your hours, prices, etc, at which time you can easily give them directions that would easily avoid the bollards from the bike boulevard, i.e. "take MLK to Nueces and turn south, we're 2 blocks down on the left or turn right on 16th from Guadalupe and then right on Nueces, we're a block and a half up on the right.

> The problem with a bicycle boulevard is it is designed to deter automobile traffic.  This decreases exposure therefore also devaluing my business.  Unfortunately, there are not and will never be enough bicyclists on Nueces to compensate for this lost exposure.
>
if you build it they will come
> In addition, my commercial property will go down in value as it has less intrinsic value to other companies to purchase the property.  The reason the property values have doubled in the last five years to begin with along Nueces is due to the rapidly increasing exposure it offers businesses and the city's rezoning plans to densify the area.

so your property taxes will also drop

FWIW, on the way home last night (~11.30) at the corner of Guadalupe and Denson the two other folks I was riding with stopped for the light (has sensor, but doesn't register bikes) truck pulls up, stops for the light, then runs a very cold red. the three of us wait another ~10 seconds for the light to change and then proceed
