Here's a post to get this forum started:  What's your daily ride?  What kind of bike and what kind of riding are you doing regularly?  If you've got more than one bike, what's the one that's currently getting more miles than the others?

I've got a steel Specialized Rockhopper from '92 that's served me well since I bought it new in college, two hours after my first credit card came in the mail...  Over the years, I've replaced or customized nearly every part except the handlebars: racks, panniers, fenders, 50 tooth chainring, bar-ends, slicks, BOB trailer, etc.  I dream of an extra-cycle conversion for it with the next financial windfall that comes my way.

The Rockhopper has the most miles on it, but the bike I'm *really* digging right now is a Redline Monocog 29'er.  This is a single-speed mountain bike that I've re-geared for the street (42x17) and replaced the knobbies with 700x38 armadillo skins.   It's like a super-comfortable one speed road-bike that takes a lot of punishment.  It's fast, light, responsive, and tough.  No decent pictures of it right now, but watch this space for updates.

So what's your favorite ride?

Re: Tom's post: Getting hit from behind

I've been riding around Austin for almost 18 years on all kinds of bikes for all kinds of reasons.  I know all the tricks and tips and have never been hit by a car, until a few weeks ago.

You can ride as safely and smartly as possible, but you'll *NEVER* be able to take precautions against a 76 year old with handicapped tags and poor vision who "just didn't see you" right the **** in front of her in a four-way stop intersection.  I hope you never never never get hit, but if you do, I'd bet it's going to be something like my crash, and not from behind.
