BIKE: pie on earth

Just got back from a couple of weeks in Sweden, where I once lived for
2 years. In every city I visited, from large to small, I managed to
borrow or rent a bike. It was so nice to be back in a country with
real bike lanes, usually physically separated from the cars, and always
with a reasonable way to get through an intersection. I rode with my
wife and 6-year-old son, without fear, even in the heart of a big busy
city. It is essentially the same in a number of other
countries where I've lived and cycled. Just not here.
Sigh.
