But first we need something more substantial than anecdotal evidence
that's dressed up in a lab coat. Fortunately, something is on the
horizon. Remember that message seeking volunteers for a study that
Micheal Zakes forwarded to the list about 2 months ago?
I recently participated (as one of among many bicycling guinea pigs) in
a study that is still underway. It is being conducted by some UT grad
students for TxDOT and should eventually provide some interesting data
concerning the shy distances that cars give to bicyclists riding in bike
lanes vs wide outside lanes. The study includes scores of sample areas
in several major Texas cities, Austin included.
I was led to believe the study would be published later this summer.
I'll be looking for it and shall send the list a link when it is finally
published.
