Yeah, they may *say* that, but only because they're playing Monday 
morning quarterback.  If the people who comprise that future generation 
lived in the here and now, they'd be happily burning up the oil along 
with everyone else.

On another topic, I don't know how I went so long without ever hearing 
about the Race Across America (RaceAcrossAmerica.org).  Riders go coast 
to coast in about 8.5 *days*.  They do it by sleeping only about 2 
hours a day.  Talk about grueling.  The four-person team finished in 
5.5 days, and rode a fully-faired recumbent, setting all kinds of speed 
records along the way.  Some vindication there for recumbent 
proponents.
