Re: good (and low cost) places to have them (bikes) repaired,
First: I will suggest our trusty Austin Yellow Bike Project (YBP). Since
1997, YBP has offered free open shops for anyone interested in learning
about bike repair. Currently, YBP has 8 or 9 shops each week at two
locations, the main shop north of the old Mueller Airport at 2013 East
51st St., and in Central Austin behind the Wheatsville Food Coop at 3101
Guadalupe.
For hours, directions, etc., call YBP at 457-9880
There are many great bike shops in Austin, with a large concentration
around the UT campus. Owners of two prominent bike shops are regular
contributors to this list, and long-time supporters of all things "bike"
here in Austin. Several new shops have appeared recently in South Austin.
See your current issue of Cycling News to see who is advertising and
supporting Austin Cycling Association's newspaper for Austin's cycling
community.
But I would like to recommend two shops in particular, not because they
are the biggest or best, but because they are of the smallest, and
represent a unique entrepreneurial strain which has already produced
several wildly successful businesses which no longer need my mention.
