Sounds like you'd be happiest in a much smaller community, say
population 7,000 or less. If we really are at or near peak oil, this
will become very much of a non-issue, unless you're willing and able to
ride your bike everywhere (and if you are, then by all means, go for it
-- you'll have even more solitude then. :) ) Most people are lazy and
will want to live close in in order to avoid having to walk or bike for
miles. This, by the way, is how human communities have been constructed
(people living close together) for over 10,000 years (with the exception
of the last 60 in which we plundered the earth in order to spread out
and get some elbow room).
