Actually, in the final analysis, we have a representative government the 
last time I checked, so the neighborhoods have no real power when push 
comes to shove.  Shouldn't you be saying "thanks, City Council"?

What gives, Dave?  When did this happen and how on f***ing earth did 
someone get away with something this incredibly ridiculous?  Could the 
city possibly be any more spineless?  I can see preventing motorized 
vehicular traffic, but not creating a through route for pedestrians and 
bicyclists is vaguely criminal, as it strongly discourages people from 
biking/walking.
