Bike folks:
I have nothing to add to this current mono-rail debate; nor do I wish to
dampen this important discussion.
However, as far as perfect transit, I am compelled to remind you of
Personal Rapid Transit; see:
Skyweb Express
http://www.skywebexpress.com/index.html
Austin Citizens for Personal Rapid Transit
http://www.acprt.org/
But until its on the ground (soon?, in Duluth, MN?), we have not much to
talk about...,
While I wait, I slave for light rail in Minneapolis, and more recently
here in Austin; Today, I like Cap Metro Commuter Rail (as a start): the
red line connecting Mueller, Featherlite and Saltillo District with both
Rails AND Trails (Rails-with-Trails or RwT).
I am not sure whether -light-, or -commuter-, or -circulator-, or -mono-,
or -PRT- will win the day eventually; I just believe that cyclists should
strongly support transit, especially that which could add up to one
hundred miles of urban off-road bike-commuter pathways (RwT).
FFI: on local RwT efforts, contact Austin Metro Trails and Greenways
(AMTG):
http://www.austintrails.org/ (lacks RwT info)

Stay tuned for AMTG sponsored web-based -austin bikeways- map.
More transit! Less cars?!
