Viva la Lance August 13 celebration being planned

Austin will roll out the yellow carpet for Lance Armstrong on Aug. 13.

Festivities beginning shortly after 6:30 p.m. at the foot of the Capitol
will celebrate Austin cyclist's sixth consecutive Tour de France victory.

The details are very sketchy at the moment, says Mark Higgins, a spokesman
for Austin-based Capital Sports & Entertainment Inc., which manages
Armstrongs business dealings.

Austin threw celebrations for Armstrong after his 1999 and 2001 Tour
victories, according to Higgins.

The Austin office of public relations firm Waggener Edstrom, which is
helping coordinate the event, says more than 60,000 people from across the
country are expected to attend. The festivities will include video
presentations, special guests and a parade, according to a Waggener
Edstrom
statement.
