W Third St. at Shoal Creek Trail

Today I rode the newly paved stretch that reconnects third street by the Shoal Creek Trail bridge. What a feast. It is amazing how easy it is sometimes to improve the riding experience in the City of Austin.
Bravo to the Bike and Pedestrian Program for bringing us this long overdue small improvement which makes a world of difference.

Re: W Third St. at Shoal Creek Trail

Is there a plan to connect the Shoal Creek trail all the way to the lake? For as long as I can remember there have been washed out sections around 5th or so. I suppose it's not a huge deal to head back up on the street next to Book People and return to the trail on this newly paved 3rd Street path, but this has long seemed a forgotten project.

Re: W Third St. at Shoal Creek Trail

The connection to the north along Shoal Creek is due to be completed within a finite amount of time (near future).  For many years, there was one land owner along the creek who refused to grant an easement so that there would be enough room to complete the trail.  That easement was gained within the last year or so.  I can't remember exactly, but I believe the project is to be completed within a year (or two?).

You are right Tom.  This project is currently in the design process.  It should complete design next year and should begin construction late next year (September or so) and should take about a year to construct.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions:  512-974-7142.
