October 1 and 3: Vision and Design

Following the Community Vision Workshop and Mobility Kickoff Reception on September 13, the Airport Boulevard team will be holding a week-long intensive Vision and Design to turn the community's ideas and goals into plans for recreating the corridor. There will be public sessions on October 1 and October 3 where you'll have the opportunity to learn, see the initiative's progress and share your input. We'll also be frequently updating (and even live-casting) here on airportboulevard.com:

Saturday, October 1 • 10 am-noon
Open House and Presentation: Work in Progress Check-in
Imagining the Future of Upper Airport Boulevard
George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center, 1165 Angelina Street

This two-hour drop-in session will include a brief presentation (11:00 AM) and a display of design sketches, drawings and illustrations that envision what the future for Airport Boulevard could look like. Meet the Airport design team, discuss design options, and weigh in on the emerging vision for how the redesign of the public realm (roadway, bike lanes, sidewalks, streetscapes, public spaces) and future redevelopment opportunities for property owners can make upper Airport a more vibrant and attractive place to live, work, shop and enjoy. The Airport Boulevard Open House is happening in conjunction with the Imagine Austin unveiling party (10am–2pm) – come help hone a new design vision for upper Airport Boulevard and stick around to celebrate a job well done for Imagine Austin's comprehensive plan for our greater city.

Monday, October 3 • 5:30–7:30 pm
Review Forum:  A Master Plan for Airport Boulevard
Guiding Future Development and Investments
Our Lady's Maronite Catholic Church, 1320 E. 51st Street

The Airport design team will present the conceptual master plan for Airport Boulevard. The first portion of the presentation will present mobility and transit recommendations for the full length of Airport Boulevard. The second portion of the presentation will concentrate on upper Airport Boulevard (Lamar to I-35). The upper Airport team will present a highly illustrated and detailed master plan that will provide the basis for the next phase of work: creation of the implementation plan. The master plan and the next phase of work will result in a comprehensive blueprint for coordinating public infrastructure investment, crafting economic development policy, and creating new development regulations that will guide the Airport Boulevard for generations to come.
