Elliott McFadden (D) is challenging U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith (R) for his congressional seat. Most of you know McFadden as the founder of Austin's first car-share service (which Car2Go then put out of business), editor of a now-defunct bike blog (was that Austin on Two Wheels?), and the founder and director of Austin's BCycle bike rental program.
He's not alone: There are eight Dems in total challenging Smith, so far. In the last election, Smith's Democratic challenger got a measly 36% of the vote, so whoever gets the nomination has an uphill battle. This is Texas, after all.
