Schedule of Full Moon Rides?

Is there a schedule of Full Moon rides somewhere?  The Austin bike calendar at Austin on Two Wheels seems to be down.    http://austinontwowheels.org/cycling-events-calendar/

Actually, Austin on Two Wheels itself seems to have been replaced by a bike builder's website...

I know I can look at a calendar to see what it says about the full moon, but I don't know if that's the schedule that's followed, or if they go for the midnight that has the fullest moon, which is not always what's listed on the calendar.

Re: Schedule of Full Moon Rides?

I've been setting the schedule, and it's posted on Facebook -- https://www.facebook.com/groups/155520658757/.  I also generally post it here and on reddit, but sometimes I forget that ...

The formula I've used is whatever gives the fullest ride at 2:00am.  (So if the full moon happens before 2:00pm local time, the ride is the night before, otherwise it's that night.)

Upcoming rides include --

Mon Oct 29 2012 11:59pm
Tue Nov 27 2012 11:59pm
Thu Dec 27 2012 11:59pm
Sat Jan 26 2013 11:59pm
Mon Feb 25 2013 11:59pm
Tue Mar 26 2013 11:59pm
Thu Apr 25 2013 11:59pm
Fri May 24 2013 11:59pm
Sat Jun 22 2013 11:59pm
Sun Jul 21 2013 11:59pm
Tue Aug 20 2013 11:59pm
Wed Sep 18 2013 11:59pm
Sun Sep 22 2013 02:00am 31st Annual Moonlight Cruze
Fri Oct 18 2013 11:59pm
Sat Nov 16 2013 11:59pm

Re: Schedule of Full Moon Rides?

Thanks for the list!  I added it to the sidebar menu of Bicycle Austin.  I also figured out how to hack the forum software so I could add the menu to forum pages, also.

I used to do the same thing you did, make a schedule for whatever date gave the fullest moon for the ride itself, and I listed the times as 11:59pm so there wouldn't be any confusion.  I listed these in a column in Austin Cycling News and on Bicycle Austin, but then person(s) unknown would make anonymous fliers with a different schedule (using full moon dates as they appeared in printed calendars) and poster them far and wide, so I eventually gave up.  I'm glad you're having more success with it.

I didn't see the schedule on the Facebook page.  Where exactly is it?

Re: Schedule of Full Moon Rides?

It's listed on Facebook in the "About" section for the ATex Full Moon Cruise group.  I just went ahead and updated it for 2013.

I haven't seen anybody else putting up fliers in several years except for the Annual Moonlight Cruze ride, and the formula for that ride is pretty well nailed down (2 AM on the Sunday morning closest to the full moon in September) so it wasn't a problem.

And if some fliers do appear with a different date, well, we'll ride twice!  But I think I've been pretty successful in uniting the local moon chasers ...

Oh, and I should mention that Elliott, who ran Austin on Two Wheels, also owns/runs Violet Crown Cycles.  So at least he didn't just sell the domain ...

He got tired of maintaining the blog, so ... here we are.  He still maintains a presence on Facebook, but in general it seems that the generally Austin cycling blogs are becoming a thing of the past?

Re: Schedule of Full Moon Rides?

Yeah, I just called Elliott and he confirmed that he retired Austin on Two Wheels.  It's too bad, it was a great site.  I wish he would have at least kept it around for archive/historical purposes, but it was his choice.

I still can't find the schedule of rides in the About section on the Facebook page, at the link you sent me.  Everyone always tells me that everything's on Facebook, but I've yet to ever be able to find anything that people says is there.

You may have to click on "See more ...".

In any event, I make an event and invite all the members of the group a week before the ride, I think that's how most people hear about it.

Facebook has a lot of quirks and flaws, but it does have the most people, so ...

Re: Schedule of Full Moon Rides?

Okay, I see it after clicking "See more...", thanks.

Anyway, I have it in the sidebar here on Bicycle Austin now, too.  I think the schedule is easier to find now here than on Facebook...

I concur. It's missed, along with Jason's.
On the flip side we still have http://oldguy2wheels.com/ which is a more personal journey but a pretty good one as a bike blog in Austin.

I miss Jason's, too.  I didn't know about Old Guy on Two Wheels, thanks.  I just added it to the sidebar.
