Pease Park - June 4th - 9 am to 2 pm

Hello all,

We have one final volunteer workday scheduled for Shoal Creek Trail at Pease
Park on Sat, June 4th from 9 am to (approximately) 2 pm and we need your
help! We'll be shoveling and packing in a layer of granite gravel on the
hillside portion of the trail that we've been working on this winter and
spring. The work consists of shoveling granite gravel (we have a powered
wagon that we'll use to haul the gravel up the hill, plus a few
wheelbarrows....) spreading it over the trail and packing it in. We'll have
hand tampers and we'll also rent a gasoline powered plate compactor to
really pack the gravel down. The end result will be a hillside trail that
drains evenly and effectively.

So, if you can come out and join us, we would really appreciate it. We'll
meet at the base of the hillside trail at the north end of Pease Park by the
trash cans. You'll see a big pile of granite gravel nearby. We need people
to shovel, haul, rake, and tamp down gravel. If you can bring an extra
shovel or a wheel barrow, that would be great. We will supply work gloves,
most tools, plenty of cold drinks and snacks as well. You should wear
comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty, shorts should be
fine, we'll be working on the trail surface away from poison ivy, trees and
brush. You should definitely bring a water bottle or camelbak that you can
refill (we'll supply plenty of water, gatorade, etc.) We should be to
complete the work in 4 to 5 hours, but even ifyou can only come for a short
time, please do!

Directions for parking and the meeting place: Pease Park is bordered by
Lamar Blvd. / Shoal Creek (east side), Kingsbury (south side), Parkway
(west side) and 24th St (north side) There are two places that you can
park. I've attached a map as well. If you have trouble seeing the map,
visit: http://www.shoalcreektrail.org/volunteer.html

1) You can park in the parking lot or along Parkway, turning south off of
24th St, walk across the field to the trail and head south up the hill over
the paved portion of the trail.

2) You can park in the cul-de-sac area at the end of Kingsbury, on the south
side of the park, where the parkground, picnic areas and restrooms are
located. The cul-de-sac is the dead end of Kingsbury next to Shoal Creek.
Walk north (up) the trail - across the expanse of Pease Park to the base of
hill - there are trash cans there and you should see the big pile of granite
gravel that we'll be spreading.

If you have any questions about the work day, what to bring, or you want to
volunteer to help run the plate compactor to pack down the granite gravel,
email Charlie McCabe at cmccabe or call 512-965-1960.

Thanks and we'll look forward to seeing you out at the workday.
