On Wednesday evening, while everyone else was at a meeting about
the new curb islands on Shoal Creek Blvd., I was at another meeting
where the topic was S. MoPac and the proposed SH 45 southwest.
TxDOT engineer Don Nyland was there, and I asked him when the "No bicycles"
signs on S. MoPac would be removed from the construction zone just south
of US 290. "Tomorrow" (Thursday), he answered. The posting of the bicycle
prohibitions had been a mistake, and the signs would be removed. He said he
had discussed the problem with Jenny Peterman, the TxDOT bicycle coordinator
for the Austin district. He now understands that bicycles are prohibited
from
the main lanes of MoPac only as far as Loop 360. He concluded by saying
that the signs on one side of the freeway had already been removed, and the
signs on the other side would be removed, certainly by the end of next week.
If anyone is on the southbound MoPac frontage road just
south of US 290 next weekend, please post to this forum
to let us know if the offending signs have been removed.
Thanks, in advance, to Jenny Peterman, for her work in getting these signs
removed.
